Live 3.02 full Rewire capability, yes or no?

Post by shermanfunk » Tue Feb 17, 2004 7:39 pm

I've been reading about people having Rewire issues w/ Live 3.02, and I want to know if there's full Rewire capability or not before I upgrade.

thanks to anyone who actually reads and replies

Don't know what system you are on... OS 9, OS X or Windows... but I'm running Windows XP with Live 3.02 and rewire works fine with Project 1.5, Fruity Loops 4.3, Melodyne, Rebirth and Reason.

I don't know what system you 're running over there and I don't know what "full" rewire stands for but I can report that I have no problems running Live as ReWire slave under Logic 6.3.3 on an OSX mac G5. Loops from Live are piped into the Logic mixer over the eight rewire channels. I have not tried to record midi data in Logic for controlling Live, though.

Cool, thanks for reporting people, sorry about not providing OS info.
I'm in Mac OS 10.2.6, and when i say "full" rewire support, i mean it can function as a host AND as a slave. if you remember back when Live 1.5.2 came out, it was unable to Rewire as a slave to anything. It was then in version 2.0 that it gained "full" Rewire status again.

i had read about people having issues with Rewire with Live 3.02.
just don't want to upgrade into problems.

thanks

The midi implementation is missing. You cannot trigger live with midi notes. Sure, when you hit play in logic live is sync'd and will start playing samples. But this means you're laying your song out in 2 places. This is not really tenable.

I had no problem controlling live from a UC-33 midi mixer when running as ReWire slave under Logic. So in that sense the midi implementation still remains. This I found to be very creative; "pre-mixing" certain Live tracks in Live into one ReWire stereo pair to Logic while sending other Live channels directly on a dedicated ReWire channel into a dedicated Logic channel. You get a lot more creative options when you can decide to mix either in Live or when the sound gets into Logic through the Live ReWire channels. This has indeed revolutionized my production style. I'm not only setting up a "loop sample library", I'm also setting up a "live session library". Sessions of up to 16 channels of useful loops that I can simply open as "a giant rewire plug-in" under Logic. If I do any mixing in Live I save the actual Live session as part of the project in the project folder. This is so good I would guess that I will still be working in this way this autumn when Logic is going to get "elastic audio in arrange window".
