MAudio Firewire 1814

Post by ze2be » Wed Oct 11, 2006 12:47 am

Thinking of selling my Maudio FW 410, and get a FW 1814.

But id like to here what some users have to say about it first!

Actualy I have not used my FW 410 at all, for various reasons. Its been confiscated by the police since mars, and I dont know when I get it back.

Before that, and still im using my Mackie Onyx in the studio. But it has only 2 outputs, strangely enough. And now I need more outputs for live giging.

I need atleast 6 outputs.

The 1814 is great, but it only has 2 analog out, but it has a digital out too. Im extremly happy with mine, no latency issues, great for on the spot recording with 2 headphones. Not a single problem, I think the newer drivers help alot too.

Only 2 analog outs? I need 4 analog outputs/2x strereo...

But at MAudio they say:

The FireWire 18/14 is an 18-in, 14-out audio interface complete with ADAT Lightpipe for multi-channel communication with other digital devices. It features 8 x 4 analog I/O at up to 24-bit/96kHz, and boasts 192kHz on the first two inputs and all four outputs.

?

edit: You must be wrong!

Check out the photo of the back on their site - it has:

4 analog outs (i.e. 2 x stereo)

Lightpipe outs (up to 8 from one plug)

2 SPDIF outs

=14.

But as vertigo said, only 2 analog (stereo) outs.

Personally, I'm looking into getting a MOTU Ultralite. My Firewire 410 totally sucks, so I'm avoiding buying M-Audio audio interfaces again.

I had nothing but trouble with my 1814. I had an Audiophile FW which worked great,
but the 1814 I had is THE crappiest piece of hardware I have had the "pleasure" of owning.
I got a Presonus Firepod instead. Has never let me down. Great sound, good drivers,
and no "built in crappy mixer software".. everything is done within Live.
I`ll never buy a M-Audio audio interface again!

OK, he ment 2x stereo, thought he ment 2 mono outs.

Hmm, I had the MOTU 828 MKI, at my old work. It was a lot of trouble actualy!

Have they gotten any better?

Looks tighter now... 828 MKII, and UltraLite looks sweet!

Edit: power, audio AND midi through the firewire cable, sweeet! :D

I had a lot of problems with my 1814. Sent it back, got a new one, not much help. Worked better on my PC than my Mac. Seems like their drivers are better for PC than Mac.

lol my bad, i ment 2 stereo out duh! lol it works just fine on my Mac, with my band I have all my samples and synths set up in live and tempo scenes with 2 outs to my mixer and a headphone feed for the click to my drummer AND recording our jams all at the same time, and not a single problem. I guess with M-audio you win some ya lose some.
