I just built a computer with an AMD Athlon 3800, way faster than my 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 which was getting a bit long in the tooth. why did I get an AMD? mostly price.

So how much do you want to spend? Is this your first computer or do you have a history with one of the above choices.

I didn't want to spend the $ to get a dual core chip but if you can afford it . . .

Gigging? Studio? Both? MIDI? Audio? Both? Budget?

It's like asking "Which vehicle should I buy - sports car, pickup, or SUV?"

Dual core ANYTHING 2Ghz or more, gig of RAM or more, RAID array hard drives a plus, no slower than 5400 RPM, 7200 is even better.

Check over the Live Five Performance Test thread to see how the different machines perform.
