Ok now that I have used automap more, I think the 8 macros is fine, they are more for performance.

As far as automapping, I would like to make our own control (which parameters are mapped)and controller (which CC#'s are used) templates.

Barring that, please at least swap saturation for decay in impulse!

Aaargh this makes me so mad

I don't understand why people are making this so complicated. I make a rack, Midi map a bunch of the parameters and macro knobs, and save it as a preset. MY MIDI MAPPINGS SHOULD BE SAVED ALONG WITH THE PRESET!!!

the question that comes to mind is: what happens when you drag in that second device, with it's mappings saved to the same knobs?

The knob controls both parameters. At that point it's my problem to figure it out but at least I don't have to map from scratch each time.

ok. I think it is at least arguable which is the better situation though.

One idea might be to have a template set with all the devices you frequently use, along with all their mappings. Then you could have them disabled, or delete them if you're not going to use them

yeah, I was mad about that too...

However, you can make use of the automap to auto control the macros. I set my Z1 up to work like a BCR and this works.

I was not mad once I got the automap working because it really is convenient not to have to set up every rack with macro assignments and just know that Macro #1 goes to what I assigned it to.

Also, check out this thread
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=47157

I have not explored the user defined scripts yet (been too busy) but this looks like a good avenue to explore as well.

I think it will be over some period of time and few upgrades before this sort of control system is solidly developed. It is very complex and has many circumstances where one choice creates problems in another way.

In the meanwhile, you can get what you want. It is not ideal, but it is very useful and functional. My rack presets are all working how I want and easy to use for performance control of parameters.

hope that helps...

Ugh, ok. I guess I'll have to look into that. Sounds like a drag though.
