What's so much better in Live6

and I hear that ( no pun intended) to the max......

It's so subjective when it comes to sound/tone.........

However........the features I listed RULE! and need to be considered when questioning "upgradeability".........which I absolutly no doubt you'd agree with!

Oh, and I then again, I now just use the blueverb (nomad) on every single verb track.........so I wouldn't know about that algorhythm .....

but again.......everyone hears things a bit different.......so it's really all good.

What i'm doing is running 6 to 7 tracks from live to different outs, up to 12 scenes in a song and up to 16 songs in a set. And sometimes bang out things out in simpler or impulse with padKontrol.

So nothing drastic for me there.

The dual cpu support and the racks to make good use of 3rd party synths and effects is so useful, I could not imagine going back to 5.2, but those features are not important for you. sounds like you don't need to upgrade.

All these updates of software are rubbish really.. if you find something that really works for you and is uber-stable then stick with it.

I disagree, many operational features, GUI and such, have had a serious tweak-up in Live 6. It runs way better than 5 on my single-proc G4 Powerbook.

I'm still on an old computer and 6 is sooo much better. Roll on the Core2Duo Macbook Pro...

I not sure, but I thought I saw someone once say that in Live 6 you can push the CPU meter up to nearly 100% before you get drop outs.

I don't know if it's just my system but I tend to hear drop outs around 50% on Live 4 (single core pentium 4). Anyone noticed any improvement in this regard? Or would I be better off cleaning out all the malicious software on my system?

Yup I definitely noticed an improvement. Compared to Live 5, with 6 I can push my old G4 powerbook by 10-20% further on the CPU graph before it starts glitching.

I think for dual-core support they had to make quite some changes to the core of Live, which shoudl be certainly noticeable. task/memory management etc.

Excellent, thanks. I guess the deep freeze will save me a lot of CPU anyway. Probably worth the upgrade on it's own (from 4 anyway).

deep freeze is a godsend

great presets and great right mouse click options

also quicktime support, best update since the midi addition

i just got the 6-er last night. its true it gives you on a powerbook g4 about 10-15% more freedom/cpu capacity and its stable (5.2.2.vs 6.01). so i believe they did something on the architecture. as well the new features are after a rought overview quite valuable.
