Your ideas are intriguing and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

(I'd file it under 'comedy' though)
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

i like the lists of words that are pronounced the same in southern, but not elsewhere (e.g., pen and pin).

It's an original act of ignorance perpetuated by regional isolationism, hard to justify in an era of mass communication. :)

Southerners tend to accentuate vowel sounds. They also add syllables.

For example:

A single syllable word like "Out" or "Dog" in normal english is turned into a two syllable word by many southerners from Georgia, South & North Carolina.

Instead of saying "Let the dog out." they say "Ley-ut the dawg ow-wut."

So a sentence with 4 syllables turns into 7 syllables.

Every state has it's own accent, though. I can listen to a southerner talk for about 20 seconds and probably tell you which state they grew up in. North Carolina is different than South Carolina, and Georgia, and Louisiana is very distictive.... etc...

I personally love the South and after school if I don't move to Spain I'm moving back down there - people are a lot more coloful and aren't afraid to let you know where they stand and where you stand with them <-- as opposed to Seattle where Passive Aggressive attitudes and behaviour rule the day

but I noticed you guys thought I was refering to the word PLEASE

actually I was talking about POLICE

PA LEASE and PO LEASE - I say PO LEASE

I think the funniest southern accent you can ever hear is when you've got a drunk cajun. They're every bit as hard to understand as a drunk scotsman.
