WACOM support
Right, this is for PC only ~
After testing the above file a bit I noticed that it's horrible to have to press a key to enable emulation, and since the middle mouse button seems not to be used in Live, I managed to set it up this way.
In the driver I set the middle mouse button to be the lower button on the pen (not the tip) the upper button is the right mouse button. THis is y default setup but it can be changed on a per application basis.
If I "draw" with the tip, I get the normal behaviour, if I hover above the faders while I have the lower button pressed (instead of the tip), then I'm in emulated mode.
It feels ok, though using the tip only would be ideal.

Yes, I think that installing this should fix it:

Yes, that did it.
So when I try it here at work (Live 5.2 Lite, in demo mode so it's 5.2) I do get click with the tip, i.e. can launch, drag faders/knobs, etc; upper button does right-click; but the lower button doesn't seem to do anything. I'm not sure I understand what it's supposed to do, really, but when I "hover above the faders while I have the lower button pressed" I don't see anything different. What is "emulated mode" supposed to do?

wacom
I'm no programmer, but can it really be that hard?
I don't know any other DAW that has problem with Wacom.
I use Wacom for everything i do..I was hoping version 6 would get support for it..
Well, maybee version 7

I forgot: it works with Live 5.2.2 and Live 6.0.1. At least the executables should be named "Live 5.2.2.exe" for Live 5.x or "Live 6.0.1.exe" for Live 6.x which corresponds to the latest releases. Possibly renaming them could be enough.
In the Wacom Tablet Properties (Control Panel) make sure that you configure the Pen as follows: pen tip = click, lower button = middle click, upper button = right click.
If you click with the pen tip, then everything is as usual.
If you click with the lower button (without touching the tablet = hovering), then you enter the emulated mode. Click the lower button while hovering over a fader, and then move the pen without touching the tablet, then it should work. You do get a visual feedback in the system tray, the live logo turns orange when you click the lower button.
--------------------------
This is not hard to implement, this is just one afternoon dedicating your brain cells to the issue. At worst 2 days of work; relaxed work.
The problem those controls have is the same which 3d shooter games have, if you tried to play them with a pen without enabling mouse mode. After each movement they reposition the mouse programatically to the point where you clicked the mouse. This is ok with a mouse, since you redefine the point zero each time you move the mouse, so if you move your mouse at a constant speed, the difference between reset and check for new offset is approximately the same.
You can't do that with a pen, that repositioning is ineffective, thus every moment you move the pen further away from the point where you clicked the control, the distance between the ineffective reset (and thus the originally clicked point) and the offset (current pen position) increases. That's why the controls accelerate.

But I'm not blaming Ableton for this, you actually need to have the hardware to work on this.

There was a horrible bug in it which made the tip not work! It has been fixed.
The new url is the following:
http://www.digitalfabrikate.de/www/data ... ive1.0.zip
and the if you don't have Vistual Studio 2005 installed you need this file

I will open a new thread in "Bugs & Problems" and try to make it sticky which contains this information.

surely after reading leinad's posts, what they are achieving is a swapping between the use of the wacom pen as a pen tool [standard pen behaviour] and the mouse tool. [adapted behaviour]
This is already possible to do with the pen itself. To swap back and forth between the modes. It is also possible to use one of the buttons of the pen to do this.
I haven't tested this yet on the mac, but I will do so today. If you have the mouse mode setup on the pen with the speed setting turned way up, it works relatively similarly to the pen.
As touch sensitivity / pressure is not what is sought, simply pen pointyness, has no one tried this out?
nvm I wil go test theory

hmm. so scratch that theory.
Changing the behaviour of the pointer mode from pen to mouse just specifically in the prefs has little to no effect on its behaviour in Live, except for making it sluggish to move around the screen.
Equally when modifying the settings of the pens responsiveness to the point of making it almost unusable has no real effect on live.
When used on sliders and volume controls for example it is still far too sensitive to be used for any kind of control. which is to say it can be used, but that it takes at least 5 tries to get the control to be where you want, and so is pretty useless for live use.
Interestingly, but pointlessly the control of gui elements of plugins doesnt seem effected by this so it does look like a specific ableton bug.
+1 for Wacom support please
