DJ - Beat matching - nudging it a bit?!

Post by neilmack » Wed Oct 18, 2006 1:03 pm

Just started using the demo version of Live 6 and am mainly trying out the DJ side of it - ie mixing between tracks. I have one playing and then press play at roughly the right time to try and get it in sync.
My question is, if the tracks aren't exactly aligned and I want to nudge the cue track forward or back very slightly to match the beats, how do I do this?

not quite what I was talking about really!!

I know alot about warping, timing etc, I want to be able to shift the tune's position whilst it's playing/being cued to the other track.

perhaps I need to play around in Live6 a bit more, but I am adding tracks on the fly - like you would as a DJ with vinyl.... I thought warping was for playing around with the file? I want to just beat match the tunes.

ableton still needs to know what bpm the song is

you can do it on the fly but youre better off having everything warped before hand

theres several warping tutorials around

You can nudge each individual track to catch it up with vinyl/cdjs etc by changing the quantization menu to none and clicking the nudge forward/backward buttons in the "clip" section. thi will nudge it a tiny amount therefore making it perfect for syncing individual tracks with an external track. Unfortunatley you cant nudge the session as a whole because when you nudge the single track it'll nudge it out of sync with the session tempo and therefore make it hard to drop other things on top of it without clicking the "revert" button which will cause an audible jump in the sound depending on how far you've had to nudge it. The only major draw back of using Ableotn as a DJ tool in conjunction with decks i think.

if you can get yourself of the fantastic bidule program, i've written a midi template whih lets you nudge the master tempo as you would a deck.
MBP 2.4 & a shit load of Faderfoxes!
