M-Audio Surgeon General Advisory (!)

Post by abletoff » Thu Oct 12, 2006 12:42 am

Hi,
just bought an axiom 45 today, I was browsing thru the papers inside... page 2 of the, uhm, manual, there is a big sticker (!) with the words "warning! materials used inside this device has been judged cause of cancer in the state of california. Wash your hands after use" 8O 8O 8O
I left the manual in the studio so I can't show a pic, but it's real! Any thoughts?

well, just make sure to scrub well if you open it up and rub various parts of your body on it !

seriously though, that's rather strange... I've never heard of that. Wonder what the material is?

those warning things are all over the place in california

there were such signs posted in the laundry room of my sister's old apartment building in mountain view.

i bet the whole valley's pretty well polluted from all the computer industry manufacturing.

i remember seeing a huge vacant lot around there, right on el camino i think, which i was told was unusable because it was an old xerox plant (??)

so uh basically california obviously at some point passed a very strict law about labelling things. i wouldn't be surprised if anything containing electronics / circuitry etc. had to recieve one of these warnings (?)

I saw those signs pop up at appartment complexes all over the place. after a bit of investigating I found out that it's mostly due to the fact that people can smoke in the area, outside or in their appartments. maybe that was a bogus answer but it's the only real answer I found.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

Knowing m-audio, I wouldn't be surprised if the drivers caused cancer. Especially if you're on a Mac.

It's on the trigger finger "manual" as well, so I kind of assume it has something to do with the pads. Meh, what can you do?

I remember seeing the same warning a week ago. Not sure what is was for.

I think I figured out it was because there was lead in the circuitry or something. I wasn't too worried.

Only causes cancer in the state of California? So it's OK if you open it up elsewhere?
