No drop outs - I thought I was getting weird sounds from overly pitched tracks but it was just my ears hearing music being played at unusually fast or slow speeds
I get the same thing too - there time stretching artifiacts when using key lock at extreme. When Serato implements pitch and time into SSL, Serato will ahe the best key lock, but it still won't be completely free from artifacts (i know cause my boys produce with P N T in PT and use it specifically for time stretching wierdness). I've disabled key lock for now - no time to get into harmonic mixing, yet anyway. Always just trusted my ears back in the day, and I kind of like doing that now too.

After looking into the TORQ thing for a while I decided to check out the IWS system as this is what M-Audio / Syncroscience have based their vinyl control system around. I can't believe I hadn't got onto it previously, Ms. Pinky's got it going on!

The way I see it there are a couple of ways to go with this.

1. Join Ms. Pinky's fanclub which includes 4 records, Maxi-Patch, Binky Toy and most importantly Pinky Pluggo. Plus get Connectiv without control vinyl.. This solves the problem of needing pre-amps for the IWS system plus the Ms. Pinky records work as control vinyl for the TORQ system.

2. Perhaps a simpler solution, get Connectiv w/ control vinyl & purchase Pinky Pluggo seperately. Anyone know if it's available on it's own or do you need to join the fanclub?
It seems there is no way around joining the fanclub($99 including 4 vinyls) if you want to get the Pinky Pluggo. Perhaps that will change as people express interest on that site to use Pinky Pluggo with their Connectiv purchase.

I'm not sure of my key lock is on or off - I'm at work and didn't have time yesterday to investigate

but yesterday I was jamming - then all of a sudden CHANNEL / TRACK / TURNTABLE # 2 started glitching and stuttering - as if it was trying to keep time but couldn't

it was weird, very weird - my PC Desktop had been acting funny and I'm goign to chalkt hat up tot he game but man - had that started in a LIVE SET

it's about a month or so until I get my MACBOOK (pro maybe >>> leanong that way but it's about finances)

I'm hoping so minor (but major in a LIVE setting) are fixed with the new laptop

peace

Well I think I discovered the root of all my evils (stutters and weird glitchy shit)

THE NEEDLE TIP - I'm using a Older NIGHT CLUB tip and that turned out to be the source of my issues after troubleshooting

So I think Im going to (obviously invest) in a new tip this weekend

I am pretty sure that with Serato, in-order to properly calibrate it, I would need to spring for new decks as well....

I remember seeing somehwhere on the SSL site, throuble shooting or set-up, that these adjustments were needed as part of a proper claibration.... ...form what I have read there is no claibration involved with Torq, plug and play.

ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THESE CONCLUSIONS ?

I own Serato and I think you are not correct.

Serato works PERFECTLY in any sh!tty situation.
You are right.

I decided to go with Serato over Torq. Went out and got it tonight along with 2 new stylus. Just finished setting it up and all of my worries were for nothing. Set up was a breeze, my turntables calibrated with no problems and playback is perfect. I'm stoked!

I chose Serato over Torq for a few reasons - the main one being Torq's system requirements. Torq's price point and feature set were definitely attractive, but while my notebook is well spec'd to run SSL it does not even meet the bare minimum for running Torq.

I tried FinalScratch because thats what was being used here in Sydney,
Then i got booked to play some 4hour HipHop sets.
I couldnt afford to screw it up when there are guys like
Talib Kweli, Supernatural n Z-Trip playing.

I bought Serato to test before the gig.
Pluged it in, worked perfectly ever since.

sold F!@#*_$cratch_2.

Serato is like my MPC to me now.

I like the idea of Torq, but it will be a while untill it gets my $.

Serato keeps its promises.

I picked up Conectiv/torq last week on an impulse buy...

It sat in my studio, and I would look at it and ponder. I ended up never even opening the box.

I realized what I really want is just pinky pluggo...

Update on Torq

It's awesome!!! even though you only have 2 decks it's holding it's own as a hybrid looper / virtual decks type thing

with effects

I use the control vinyl and I just figured out the best way to loop stuff with the quick loop button

so you're jamming on your decks, then you want to loop a section - bam quickloop it while you're in the mix - then loop the other track and you're off -

Live effects are still way better and you can't quantize your quick cues (which sucks) in Torq but I was told they're working on the quantization

oh and the program is a million ties louder than your regular vinyl which some people over on torq-dj.com are debating whether it's a defect or not - I think it is

anyone else have torq?

Using Traktor with Digi Vinyl. The Volume and sound quality is excellent, very relaible and has awesome looping features.

I just saw that the Xponent has a trackpad + 2 mouse buttons built in.

That coupled with the fact that Torq seems to be the only all-digital (no control vinyl or CDs) virtual turntable program that plays well with Live may force me to check it out, though I didn't really want to in the first place.

Anybody know if scratching with MIDI jog wheels on Torq would be a huge joke or not?

um you've got that wrong buddy, torq does use vinyl and cds, those aren't jog wheels you're looking at.

I think what he is saying is he can use it without vinyl or cd's if he chooses to, plus it gets along well with Live.

I think.
