I tried unplugging my midisport 4x4 from my monitor and it seemed to cure it... Not 100% sure it's that but it seemed to work last night. Was getting frequent glitches before at even low cpu %.
Just thought I'd share that with you

How in the world do you plug a MIDI interface into a monitor? That doesn't make any sense at all...

could be a built in hub.
like apple cinema displays with 2x firewire and 2x USB ports.

yea i had issues with my Motu Fastlane USB Midi interface plugged into my 23" Apple display. Everything else works fine.
There are alot of midi devices that don't fair well with hubs.

What's the alternative then? I need midi (not necessarily 4 ins outs any more though).

plug it in directly to the computer, not the monitor.

How would that make a difference? It's all connected anyway. I'll give it a go though... I hate m-audio

you lose bandwidth by going through a hub.
direct connection = maximum bandwidth and less of a chance for a driver conflict.

If that cures it, assuming you have a machine with PCI, stick in a new USB2 PCI card for best results. You only have finite bandwidth...

The hub could be on a difference IRQ too, lots of ways that could make a difference.

Also, the hubs have a single current. So if you have a few bus-powered devices plugged into the hub, they may not have enough current to run.

This is true, but with USB what should happen is that the device will report back that it is in an "over-current" state and should end up not running. I doubt this would cause this kind of symptom.
