Powered Reference Monitors?

Any recommendations?

I used to own these

However the powered side got a nice cold glass of beer dumped on it so I'm shopping around.

I'm looking into these:

Both of em look ok and are probably better than what I have. Any ideas or feedback?

I have a pair of the KRK rp5's- I use them for djing along with a KRK v10 sub. The speakers alone sound good. they sure pack some punch for their size. Good sounding little monsters.

Tannoys were the best sounding, when I last tried a load of monitors out in a music shop.

Alesis M1 active Mk2's

Alesis's gear gets poo-pooed from time to time, but I'm inlove with these things. They'll be my faves until I get to the $1000+ level.

i use roland ds-8's and am happy with them, they provide very accurate sound. from what it seems they are all on sale now to, seems everyone is blowing them out for about 240 per speaker, can't go wrong there.

It's clear the budget is around $300 so a lot of the above doesn't apply.

I was looking into the Rokit rp5s and the Tascam VL X5s as a cheap option to go with my decks.

I have Alesis Monitor 1 mk2s in my main music room which are ok but hard to get to sound good in fiddly spaces.

Only one idea, but it's a golden rule.

Choose a few of your favourite CD's and any music you've been working on. Then, go to your local gear pushers on a quiet afternoon or evening and listen to all the monitors that they have, including ones that are below and above your price range to get a better perspective. Don't forget to think about how you'll feel after listening to the same ones for hours on end - some that sound initially great start to wear you down after a long period of time.

Take everything anyone tells you online about them with a pinch of salt. Whilst it may be right for them it may not be right for you - trust your own ears. Admittedly you get special cases like NS10M's. While they're not the best, they pretty 'standard' because they're so widely used people know what to expect them to sound like.

P.S. Having said ignore what people suggest, I found Alesis Monitor 1 Active MkII's to be superb for their budget price range and blow away several noticably more expensive units...

New Future Music mag rates Tannoy Reveal 5A as top choice in their price bracket. I've got a pair and I think they are excellent FOR THE MONEY. Spend more you get more but these are definitely punching above their weight.

yes i have the tannoy 6ds might be out of your price range but i think with tannoy you get what you pay for and more.

Id go into a shop and compare some of these if were you.
