New Apple MacBook Pro
yeah I probably will be waiting for another month or two, depending on funds and my decision. I like the idea of having OSX and XP on a single machine. This means I can still mess with all my free VST synths if I so desire.
The only major concern (other than the mbp's known issues) is getting all my live sets from 5 into 6, then jumping from XP to OSX, and having a smooth transition onto a new machine to finish my 2 main projects. In this case, it seems another windows machine would be easier, and cheaper, which would give me more time to wait on apple revisions before i drop $2400.
But then there is live performance and quality build features....
OSX and the stability of running live and web browsing, all on the same machine (which I don't do with my current XP setup)
around and around i go...

This is going to sound like a really dumb question but
Why would you run Windows on a Macintosh computer - just so you could use some Windows apps right?
Why not just get a PC with windows on it - why get a mac and run and different operating system
this is something I'm going back and forth on - I like the new MacBooks but there's just too many free VST's I use for PC only (THAT I REALLY LIKE)
so, someone suggested running windows on the Mac - nice idea, but why don't I just get PC Laptop
curious

i wonder as well... why? the whole and major point of a mac is OSX!!, so if you go mac you should ditch all those shitty windows apps alltogether... just bin the crap and use OSX apps that actually work [and there is enough free and very decent stuff around to get keep you making any music you want].Adonis wrote:This is going to sound like a really dumb question but

i know i will be flamed for that, however... if you really feel you need windows apps... you most probaly better off buying a decent PC , why do halfbacked stuff like bootcamp... what a waste of money and priority... and stability in my personal eyes running both is rubish.
if you like windows...fine buy a PC or
buy a mac because of OSX.

For me it's because I need Wavelab still. I do mastering for people on the side, and Wavelab is still PC only. I also don't have the money to get an OSX wave editor (and none can touch wavelab anyway in terms of features) or upgrade my Waves mastering plug ins at the moment. Eventually I will, but this windows on the MBP is just an intermediary step.
I plan to use OSX for everything else, including Live.
Still surprised at the lack of high end tools like Wavelab for OSX. BIAS is pretty good, DSP is nice for the price, but all of those lack a lot of functions of Soundforge and Wavelab still. Anyway...

Hey, if you can find me a free compressor like the Chunkware Vanilla comp which has sidechaining, a Universal Binary version of my PSPAUDIO Multimode filter NITRO, something other than AUTOMAT that works like KARMAFX and upgrades to UB for the rest of my plugs that don't cost moneySubFunk wrote:

I'm on it :)

what do you specifically miss? in peak or dsp quattro or sonic HD for example... all OSX and superb! i use Peak 5.2 XT Pro for my commercial and private work. it does a fine job.Tarekith wrote:For me it's because I need Wavelab still. 5.1 support. (admittedly not a huge deal, but used it a couple times)SubFunk wrote:what do you specifically miss? in peak or dsp quattro or sonic HD for example... all OSX and superb! i use Peak 5.2 XT Pro for my commercial and private work. it does a fine job.
Spectral editing.
Dragable inserts (ie, you can dynamically change the effect order)
K-System metering (without needing to use Inspector XL)
Superior samplerate conversion (doing more 96k work these days)
More comprehensive batch editing.
I'll be honest, I haven't used Peak yet, as I don't have my Mac yet (today?), so I'm only going on the specs they publish. I plan on trying out the demos once I get up and running on the MBP, I'll know more definitively then.

DOH! I forgot about WAVELAB <-- I have that, I haven't used it in a minute but WAVELAB is second to none when it comes to Mastering and wave editingTarekith wrote:For me it's because I need Wavelab still. I wouldn't flame you subfunk but seriously, that's about the most unreasonable statement i've ever read on the subject.SubFunk wrote:Adonis wrote: i wonder as well... why? the whole and major point of a mac is OSX!!, so if you go mac you should ditch all those shitty windows apps alltogether... just bin the crap and use OSX apps that actually work [and there is enough free and very decent stuff around to get keep you making any music you want].
