"appears to be corrupt".....live crash/reset

i just sent this to ableton, but i'll post here as well. thanks very much for any help....

a set i've been working heavily on is all of the sudden corrupt. live simply locked my machine up during a "collect and save" so i hit the restart button. upon rebooting, live wanted me to enter my serial and install the live library again.......all settings were lost inside of live. my set is now corrupt and will not open. i've tried reinstalling but it didn't work.

for what it's worth, NONE of the software i use is pirated.

i'm using:

live 6.01
xp/amd athlon 3200+/1 gig ram
m-audio audiophile usb asio card

no log, unfortunately.

is it toast?

This was a while ago, but did you ever get this resolved, or hear any response from support? I have a corrupt set which I NEED back, and am wondering if I should have hope.

Nope, I didn't have any luck. The support team was sympathetic but also realistic. In these cases it's rare if much can be recovered, but if you want, they will take a look at it. However, they can't promise anything, including a timely response.

Needless to say, I back up like crazy now....

I'm sorry to hear about your set, I feel ya. I somehow had the patience and motivation to rebuild my track, though...

Well, it's been a week and 3 days, with one follow up by me and I haven't heard anything. Not sure I consider that timely.

It really scares me that the state of a set file can become corrupt, without some actual disc / hardware failure being the cause. My suspicion is that Live itself corrupted the file with a 'dirty save'. I consider this a serious bug, as making a backup might be afflicted by the same condition.

Ableton you should attempt to load these corrupt sets in a debugger and see at which point the file data is not longer valid. These types of bugs raise serious quality concerns.
