As far as the dsp, well the compression and eq do the a really nice job on my vocals and it suits my needs perfectly. To each his own I guess. It's funny how everyone panics when one person on a board says his expierence with an item(anything....not just music gear) sucks, or was faulty. No one makes threads to just rave about a product that often. I mean.....I didn't and I love my saffire.

Not "one person on a board" on this one.

"I retract my previous glowing statements about the Focusrite Saffire. It's a genuine piece of gorilla shit. Latest firmware, drivers, apps, OS etc and it still just gives me the digital finger. Either it spends the whole time flicking on and off or goes to digital noise after about 5 minutes of use. Same results in Live 5/6, GarageBand, Logic and Soundtrack Pro. Also the same on a G4 PowerBook and a Core Duo mini. I give up. "

I'm just saying other people have found it to be an extremely problematic piece of hardware compared to other units. Secondly, magazine reviews are usually based on units direct from a manufacturer, used in a controlled environment and not by musicians "in the field".

Mine was the full Saffire, not the LE, and it was the first release of the hardware, just to be fair.

Cool I will do some more research. sometimes I feel like I am wasting money on gear. You never get what you want and you find out when its too late that a piece of equipment just does not cut it. I wonder if these comapanies know this. I need a new hobby this one is too expensive

I owned the Saffire for a while. I had the first generation of drivers, they werent perfect, I had to uninstall and re-install from time to time. The 2nd Generation of driver was fine for me, no probs. I found the audio quality pretty good, I have nothing else to compare the quality to though apart from a 16bit Soundmax soundcard. I sold it becuase these days I like having less. I miss 24 bit depth, but I prefer a built in soundcard out of sight that just works all the time. PC Laptops will one day ship with built in 24 bit Soundmax cards. That'll be nice. Btw, I sold on Ebay and it retained a lot of its value, I didnt lose very much on the sale, it was just like renting 24 bit for awhile.

i've had a saffire le for 3 months now.
i've not had one problem with it and it sounds great.
i'd go as far to say that it's most reliable piece of audio gear.
i'd recommend it.

thanks for the info folks. curious, are those that are having a good time with it on Windows or Mac? perhaps it's the Mac drivers that are shit.

I am curious to find out how it works on both mac and PC too. I think I will be buying a Macbook soon for live playing. I am so tempted to go out and buy the Firebox today too, ahh this is driving me crazy. I do like the specs and the look of the Saffire Le though.

Bought the FireBox today. Oh the clarity, it sounds so damn good. I still prefer the look and layout of the Saffire Le though. But I like the size of the FireBox nice and small. I will see how it holds up for the next few weeks. Man it sounds good.
