I don't think they need to be big. I mean, it can be really cool, but there are a lot more beautiful things about a woman than just the BTs.

pioneered trance
ummmm oh hell no

personally, i find his music boring and contrived... it doesn't have an organic feel to it...and it's just a little TOO polished for my taste... oh and for those of you who think he's full of glitchy goodness, you really need to listen to more music.

Sorry, I completely disagree here. If you've not listened to This Binary Universe, then you need to. Then, listen 5 more times before you compare BT to Kenny G. TBU is so incredibly deep it takes many times through to get half of whats all going on. I've not been able to compare it to other electronic albums, it's closer to Messian or Varese. There is all sorts of classical form used, very large structures. Elements from a plethora of genres combine to make TBU unique. I am completely surprised at how well recieved it is with BT's general audience. If he were like Kenny G his audience would have been confused and lost, but his mastery of motivic melodic devices carries this album to even the least sofisticated listener.

ive listened to it.

over-polished, contrived and generally devoid of feeling.

if at some point i would have felt confused or lost then that would be a start.

as it was i felt at best ambivalent and at worst slightly annoyed.

I flew with BT once. He said "I ain't gettin' on no plane, Hannibal!"

Oh no - wait... That was BA.

I loved Movement in still life. I wouldn't call it ALL Trance, though. There was Hip-Hop and Breaks on there, too.

BT is to me, nothing. He hasn't pioneered anything, period. He's a salesman.
Emotional Technology is probably the most emotionally empty, (unintentionally) album I've heard in years. BT wrote beats for NSync, that about says it all IMO.
If you like that sort of thing, fine. I find it lifeless.

If I want to be inspired by someone's production values etc. I'll take the neptunes, or Prodigy, or any number of other people over him any day.

I normally don't care what people listen to etc. but BT is dammed close to pure McDonalds electronica, and no amount of production values can change junk food into healthy food to me.

I propose an exercise. Let's all focus on one track and analyze it: motivically, harmoncally, and structurally. Even those who don't like the track will surely learn things along the way.

I once read an interview with Steve Reich and John Corigliano. They were adamant that as composers and musicians we need to listen to everything, and not tune out styles that we don't like. Their point was that there is always something to be learned, even if it's how not to do something. So, how 'bout it? It will take time that none of us has, but it will be fruitful.

i dont think i can make it through any of his tracks to be honest. Maybe if worked a little harder on making good diverse music instead of posing for album layouts he would do something interesting. Their is a vid on youtube of him doing a demo with live. Its totally lame. Earth wind and fire (BT remix) he is p diddy of electronic music.
