That article doesn't say a word about that guy using Ableton Live; it says he's employing a live band on some of the tracks.frisbeedisk wrote:Here is the scanned shadow interview for download:

Yeah your right, but he's ditching it for the software path - protools - and im sure he'll be tweaking with live!!Mag_Music wrote:That article doesn't say a word about that guy using Ableton Live; it says he's employing a live band on some of the tracks.frisbeedisk wrote:Here is the scanned shadow interview for download:

i think it's a completely different asthetic they're going for, otherwise they'd just play drums instead of turntables and mpCs.dj superflat wrote:i think it'd be more fun to watch if they were banging on one of those alesis drum pads with sticks (using your fingers can't match the precision you get with sticks, let alone the sheer joy of banging away).
Mac, Mpc, and a Microphone

but you can't do with drums what you can do with the alesis pad or the MPC, and i don't see how the thing on which you hit pads makes much of a difference (other than it's likely easier to have better touch banging away with sticks (based on velocity, size of what you're hitting, etc.)). so i don't think it's at all like saying they should play drums, just that the way they interact with pads doesn't seem interesting to me (and if you can hit pads in time with your fingers, you can do it with sticks -- we're not talking paradiddles).
don't get me wrong, it's much, much worse when (e.g.) someone plays drums via a midi guitar -- there's nothing to see or relate to. with pads you kinda see it, but with drum pads you see the strike and it resonates with the sound, makes more sense for an audience. just my take.
