Just a quick bump to let everyone know that this issue appears to be the same on the new Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro's, so if you have a Firebox and are thinking of getting a new MBP, you have been warned!

My 17" Core2Duo should be arriving in 2 weeks - I'll let ya's know how the Fireface400 gets on with bus-power. . . :?

I read these warnings 1 week too late! Just got a 17" macbook pro and firebox last week only to discover I won't be able to do field recordings the way I was planning. I have exactly the same stupid blinky light when I try to boot up the firebox from bus power.
I will register my complaint with Apple as well. Any idea if the M-Audio stuff has the same problem? I am considering testing that 410 thing out, though I like the Firebox's size and in/out's better.

There's a thread on the Apple site all about this....

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... &tstart=75

I've been using a 410 on my g/f's first generation MBP without any probs.

I must ask, does this only affect the first revision models? or the core2duo ones too???

and if you connected power to it as well, does it blink faintly?

I don't think Rev C will make any difference, the problem is to do with the overcurrent protection introduced in the MBP's from the first 17".

I think this could be fixed in firmware, but Apple seem to have no interest in the problem

I dont know if it's me, but i notice apple not really giving two shits about audio production as much as say film, or photography...

just the way it feels to me... I dont care that there's logic 7 and garageband either, as there's better software out there anyway! (plug plug plug) :P

I dont know, either the vendor has to meet apple's hardware requirements (which is hard to keep up with) or apple has to meet the vendor's requirements (which is also very hard), looks like a vicious cycle really...

I'm intending to get a 24" imac for studio production, and use the powerbook for mobility and live gigs (as currently its my only computer). I WAS intending to upgrade my powerbook to a 17" core2duo macbook pro.. but if this problem resides, then im worried...

Alternatively, I don't mind using the firebox with additional power connected to it (as i'd have to connect the laptop to a mains anyway) so I guess the problem in the future wont be so bad for me.. still though, it's handy to have it working correctly without having to connect additional power...

Good luck folks, dont give up on this, as two fine-ass components dont work (as well) together.

Results are in: IT SUCKS!!!

Exactly the same problem/symptoms with the Fireface 400.

Guess I'll add my voice to the chorus of disapproval to Apple...
