Myspace - my new song is a copyright infringement?
I tried to upload a new track to www.myspace.com/pivotsound and when the file uploaded, it did some kind of processing followed by an error saying that my song is a copyright infringement and would not show up.
I heard yesterday that Myspace has a new audio fingerprinting engine to stop pirated music from going up there, but for fuck sakes ... at the expense of no more original material ?

this happened to me yesterday as well, really confused me, but at least I have some kind of explanation now. actually, scrap that, I'm still confused.sweetjesus wrote:I tried to upload a new track to www.myspace.com/pivotsound and when the file uploaded, it did some kind of processing followed by an error saying that my song is a copyright infringement and would not show up.

the amusing thing is that of the songs I uploaded, one was a cover (albeit mostly unrecognisable) of a very well known song, which went straight up without any problems. and one of the original songs got rejected.slow riot wrote: this happened to me yesterday as well, really confused me, but at least I have some kind of explanation now. actually, scrap that, I'm still confused.
I read they (and Youtube) have licensed the Gracenote , which is an audio fingerprinting technology. I've seen it operate before quite impressively. I think here it is obviously less than impressive.
Perhaps it is not in place yet and they are simply blocking any music uploads!
I don't think SJ's music is particularly heavy on 3rd party samples, so unless someonehas the copyright on all frequencies between 5k and 7k or something .. this is the beginning of the end for these two companies.
lets face it - for Youtube in particular - videos of copyright material is what makes 80% of its attraction. I have found videos on there I would never have seen otherwise, if I cant find more Can, Faust, Suicide , ... (etc) videos there I would never visit again. I am not 14 and have no interest in 14 year old girls miming and mincing about.
we should have a festival of copyrighted music from these services before they curl up and die.
which, in the case of myspace, would be a very good thing.

They said it was impossible so a Wired reporter knocked up a script that did it and discovered 744. I bet MySpace were a little embarassed by that.Spiralgroove wrote:this is the same company who said they could not implement a function to search their database against a known list of sex offenders.

It's owned by Rupert Murdoch. The biggest media baron on the planet. He's such a cnut that despite owning the Sky network and half of the UK newspapers he apparently pays no tax in the UK. Money talks alot louder than, well, everything
This is the main reason why I hope MySpace crashes and burns.
it already has crashed and burned, its a steaming pile of shit. its getting smellier and smellier. Some people have a higher threshold for bad smells so they'll take a little longer to get the message.
so Rupert enjoys tax-free status eh ?...Gee I wonder what favours he's doing in return for that

In fact half the political battle in the UK is just to get Murdoch on your side. Once you've done that you can get him to manipulate the population to vote for you.
Democracy, yeah right.
