To me, trance is only good when one is on drugs. If you're not on drugs, then fuck it. When you grow out of weekly drug use, you tend to grow out of trance. Just my experiences.... i have to respectfully disagree with the relation made between trance music and substances, although there is the usual relationhip beween dance music scenes and substances abuse...
it happened with house, techno, dnb, and of course trance...
usually while the scene is new and fresh, the music that goes along also seems to be fresh and new
as the scene declines towards decandency the music tends to feel less interesting and alot of people move away from the events and from the substances regular use, sometimes jumping on another scene, sometimes just chilling out, sometimes starting to make their own music...
trance has been a very complete kind of music,
with assorted styles covering from full on to pure ambient,
and inbetween had its truly progressive moments,
the goa influenced era, etc...
latelly it has declined towards 2 very different aspects, the full psy and the house-prog,
while one is becoming potentially schizo-frenetic and sometimes demency-inducing for free the other has turned into lame club music made and played by poser producers/djs...
different times will come and for sure it will have a lot to do with unknown people unsatisfied with what is available and feeling the urge to have their own perspectve...
i had mine, i like to call it high tech...
you can have a listen in www.silicon-records.com/player.swf
and please let me know what you think
i don´t know if it disrespectfull to put the link to my player,
i hope not...

im into trance and techno. i think they both blend well into a set when you feel like taking a different direction to the set. for me you dont need to take drugs to listen to trance. trance is the drug. theres nothing better than listening to those uplifting melodies that gives you goosebumps and when the techno loops kicks in added with a catchy bassline. thats why i love tech trance so much. a combination of trance and techno.(brilliant). i dunno why trance aint that popular on her considering in the last 5 years trance djs has been voted the best in the world. but to be honest there aint much great stuff out recently. the only productions im loving at the moment is by mac zimms. great style of tech trance. full of energy unpredictabilty and kicks ass on the dance floor. i was going to write more but my arm is starting to ache now.
