Vista? No thanks, (Part II)

Post by Allison Redhead » Thu Nov 02, 2006 6:49 pm

Apple has dropped the "Trusted Computing" model that permits, among others, Microsoft to turn off features, codecs and compatability whenever they like, even though you paid for those features when you bought Vista.

Hurrah for Apple! One more reason to tell Microsoft to pound salt.

Theres nothing too bad with trusted computing per say, its all about how its used. Apple were actually arguably the bad guys here, they were the only platform not to release the specs of their offering. After much huffing about it, they decided to drop it completely.

The technology offers some nice solutions to making computers more secure. However both Apple and Microsoft are enjoying putting their own business interests ahead of just about everything else, especially when it comes to ownership of your own software and digital media.

Check out Mac OS X Tiger, substract mp3 playing capabilities and other features you've already paid for and see for yourself.

Jeez...the only way they're going to get people onto vista is by somehow forcing them off XP by some underhanded means.....like not supporting it when new chips & motherboards come out, or some such thing.

Theres a heap of great software on XP...lets hope the developers dont leave the platform or arent forced into vista somehow...

I dont think I've heard a single good thing about Vista. and to be honest, I couldnt be arsed reading about it.

I think the best thing that can be said about vista is that it is making sure apple keep their eye on the ball so to speak, OS release wise. And it will give all those hackers some new software to play with, keeping them off the streets and in front of their computers, where they should be

obviously none of you have actually used vista.
i have been for months and get better performance than osx or xp in the live 5 performance test. my 1.66 duo on vista beats 2.0ghz duos on osx!
it is rock solid, sleek, fast and sexy.

sorry to rain on your parade...
ryan.

wow-wee

thats the first good thing I heard - I'm not hating for the sake of hating, just all I've heard about is cringe-worthy shit - if it performs better than XP ?..well thats good. Yes thats good.

yep..
hate to be the odd one out... but, vista blows the doors off xp and smokes osx as well. see the live 5 performance test thread.
sorry...
oh, and this tpm hooplah is kinda funny...
in the bios of most pc laptops you can simply disable tpm altogether.

peace yall.
