midi overwrite

Is it possible to record midi in overwrite mode and not just overdub mode?
i just wanna record a 2 bar loop keep it recording and looping untill a get a perfect take, i dont just wanna keep adding notes. is it possible to do this

I just hit record on the midi track, play for a while then go back and find the good take, or stop when I hit one.

I haven't done what you're asking for a while but I think if the notes are close, witin quanitsation, they replace the old ones, makes sense now that I think about it.

I guess you could use dummy clips to send commands to jump to the next clip to record, send scene down and clip launch commands every 2 bars.

unfortunately i don't have a midi controller and i have been using live (for almost a year) without midi but i assume that what you're asking for is possible

will let you know as soon as i get a midi controller too

nop it is really not possible to do what i want :(

turn overdub off and it stops recording

oh ok..i m sorry to hear that...hope it would do it..

anyway i gotta sayt that ableton live is absolutely a great program for making music and i have been using it for almost a year..i ve made all my music with it.i m discovering other stuff as well but i think this program is by far one of the best i ve used

I've find it a bit silly too

But now I use empty midi clip with follow action on an armed track.

It keeps every shots you did play, so if you edit it, you have tons of variants left.

This is sometimes an advantage.
