I have to admit some frustration with Ableton's security procedures.
I had the misfortune into either running into a bad batch, or a bad defective drive line, period: the Maxtor SATA DiamondMax 11 500GB hard drive.
I've tried setting up a new computer multiple times with this drive, only to have it lock up completely on me (to the point that the raw Maxtor utilities can't even see the drive).
In the process, I've had a bunch of registered software I've had to activate multiple times over a couple of days, including WinXP and some other significant, competitive software to Ableton.
In every case except for Ableton, I was able to resolve the problem quickly. With Ableton, I'm stuck on a weekend waiting for someone to send me an e-mail when they get my plea for help. Ableton is unique in this "procedure."
I'm sure it's all friendly and casual and all, but it's been VERY frustrating having to wait, after days of endless misery trying to get this new system going.
Go Western Digital; goodbye, Maxtor -- there's a reason you were bought up, obviously. Too bad, I've used Maxtor hard drives for years and they've been previously very reliable. I suspect angry workers in the factory during the period of company acquisition. Now I've gotten to share their unhappiness in spades.
