template.als file replacement for Novation Remote 25 ?

Post by DJ Eliosonic » Mon Mar 29, 2004 9:36 am

Hi There,

Could anyone help me with this: I have a Novation Remote 25 masterkeyboard and a G4 titanium powerbook under OSX. The Novation is hooked up via USB.
I downloaded a 'learning' file form Novation's website in order to get the 25 to transmit control messages to ableton (faders, scenes, sends) The user manual says that I should replace the ' template.als' file with the one provided by Novation.

I can't seem to find that file in the mac's directories! It isn't where it should be anyway (preferences files)

Has anyone experienced the same. Also, other tips on how to get the 25 controlling ableton are very welcome! Do I have to program all knobs and sliders individually, or is there a simple way?. Which faders and knobs for what controller, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hi DJ Eliosonic,

The assigning of MIDI controllers in Live is pretty easy I think. In the Live manual is a section "MIDI-mapping Mixer and Effect Controls" which describes it.

The "template.als" must be located in the folder where the preferences are stored. So on a mac it must be in "...\Preferences\Ableton\Live 3.0.3\".
So "replace" is probably not the right word if you still not have a template.

Alex

Hi gig,

same on the PC. The "template.als" or "Template.als" must be placed into the preferences folder. Assuming you have Live 3.0.3 this is:
"...Program Files\Ableton\Live 3.0.3\Preferences\"

Also when a template is loaded the initial document name is "untitled". So you cannot detect on the name if a template is loaded.
If you loading a template only having MIDI mapping you should press the 'MIDI' button left of the CPU usage display in the transport view to see if there's a MIDI mapping in this template.

Wish it was that easy....

Dear Alex,

Unfortunately, I'm having a lot of trouble getting the REmote 25 to behave like I want it to. But this is probably not Ableton's concern ;-)
