Editing the Waldorf Pulse with UC-33 via Live 5

Post by FurnitureFunk » Fri Nov 03, 2006 12:58 pm

I've been attempting to use my M-Audio UC-33e to edit my Waldorf Pulse's parameters. The set-up is currently as follows:

I have a keyboard going into the MIDI IN of the UC-33e, the UC-33e is connected via USB to my computer. The MIDI OUT from the UC-33e is going into the Pulse.

I'm able to play and create MIDI tracks in Live by playing the keyboard and hearing the Pulse, however the Pulse does not react to any of the knob/slider movements from the UC-33e. I have everything on the same MIDI channel and I've assigned each of the UC-33e's controllers to the parameters of the Pulse that I want them to control.

Any ideas as to what's going wrong here? Thanks!

hi

you don t need to plug the midi out of hte UC33 to the pulse as the usb already carry the midi to live

just go into live preferences & add you uc 33 as a remote controler then enable monitor on the midi track to edit the pulse

hope this helps

sorry for my english ;)

Hmm...perhaps I wasn't explaining myself clearly.

The UC-33e is the only thing directly connected to the computer, yes, by USB. The Waldorf Pulse is a rack-mount hardware synth from probably over 10 years ago....no UBS.

In order to sequence the Pulse via Ableton live I use the UC-33 as a MIDI in/out device with a keyboard (Nordlead 2) to input a keyboard part which is recorded as a MIDI track in Live. They is then played back by the Pulse via the MIDI Output of the UC-33.

However I want to use the UC-33 to edit the various parameters of the Pulse synthesizer as the MIDI from Live is going via USB to the UC-33 and then out into the Pulse. Since the UC-33 has 24 knobs and 9 sliders I'd rather use those controllers to edit the Pulse rather than the 6 knobs that the Pulse has for editing it's 70 or so parameters.

I'm not looking to edit the MIDI data in the MIDI track within Live.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

OK, i figured out that I had the preferences set to receive from "UC-33 USB MIDI Controller (Port 1)" and "UC-33 USB MIDI Controller (Port 2)". I turned off Port 2 and now I'm able to draw a MIDI pattern, play it back and edit it with the UC-33 while it's playing, however...

I need to keep the track in Record mode in order to hear the part playing, but what this does is also record the controller movements from the UC-33, which makes it difficult to edit the Pulse in a useful way as the parameters keep moving around due to the recorded movements of the controls.

Is there a way to playback the MIDI pattern while also inputting controls from the UC-33 without Live recording the controller movements?

Thanks!
