Seeing as I've already got a wicked laptop, I'd definitely go for a Mac Pro Quad with extra drives and 4GB of RAM.

I'd never spend that kind of money on a computer.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Dr Dub wrote:If i was sober and rationally (which is hard), I would buy a PC with Core2Duo,
2 GB Ram and two HDs for about 2000 or even less, put away the other 2000
and buy a new computer in 2 or three years.

Doing this, you will have a really powerfull and "up-to-date" Audio-Computer
for the next 5 years or so.
Spending 4000 now won t give you that.

Nothing changes and lowers it s value as much as Computers, if you want to
spend 4000, there are NICE options for the other 2000:

Fireface 400,

good Monitor-Speaker,

a nice and BIG Screen,

a good micro,

a nice Toy like an MPC, Guitar, Bass.... all will give you longer fun & help your music.

But that s just what parents would say. (They are right sometimes, i fear)

best advice ever.

I got Intel Core2Duo E6600, 4GB of dual-channel ram, 1Tb of hd space, 20'' monitor from dell, just going to add a decent soundcard to that setup soon. It was hell less than 4k and I can't imagine you need much more.
