Whats up everyone. First time poster, hope to be a long time one.
Just picked up Ableton after hearing so many good things about it. I have DJed for over 3 years now and never thought about incorporating a laptop and ableton into the mix.
I just bought a 2400 AMD , 512 ram, 40 gig hd, 64 vid ram, laptop from emachines. its a widescreen so i thought it would be perfect. The specs sound pretty good. but i was told other wise?
I just want to make sure that this lptop will work up to my standards, i just wanna make sure its fine for shows and that i wont have preformance problems.
Also i can mix live right with it? like import clips on the fly and have it smoothly?
Fill me in yall
Thanks
Dave

that machine should perform no problem in a live setting. just make sure you optimize it for music (rather than home use - search the threads for XP optimization)
partition your drive or better still get an external FW drive for your music stuff. i use a laptop solely now for both live work and studio work and i've had no problems with it at all
laptops used to be notoriously glitchy in a live setting - that's a lot better now
proper planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance

dont worry
i ave te same macine as you exept it is a slower 2000xp cpu.
i have never had any problems running live, sometimes the drive crashed but its because a laptop drive runs at 4200rpm and can only handle 8 simultaneous audio tracks.so i bought an external drive at 10000rpm & it works perfectly now.
also make sure you have a good sound card as it can bring a lot of troubles.
the only time it crashes it s when i use reason+live rewired in cubase with 8 audio tracks , about 10 vsti & 50 plugins.
but dont be troubled by others, your machine will do the job,my system never crashed on a gig
