My cats never get to go out without me holding them or having them on a leash!

Seriously, there are way too many dangers (cars, freakey people, dogs, disease, accidents, etc...).

The difference in life span between indoor/outdoor cats is huge.
With all due respect.

That's no way to keep a cat. That's cruel.

Yeah much better to let my cats get flea and disease infested, splattered by cars, mauled by dogs, killed by messed up people.

My cats are 14 years old and GF's is 21, they were all adopted live happy comfortable lives.

Never would have gotten half that far in my neighborhood if I had done any different.
GO VEGAN!!! - Macbook Air, Bass Station II, Some Korg shit, Live Suite, U-He, Audio Damage, Microtonic, Ohmicide, more soft stuffs, awesome controllers, euro rack modular synth,an awesome cat.

Yeah, fair enough man, it sounds like we live in very different areas etc. My cats love going out but our 'hood is fine for all that. I'm not trying to cause any argument. We're both cat lovers. :)

I don't understand why people don't microchip their cats -

they let them run about in the streets all the time, let alone go outside when they feel like it

they could get stolen, picked up by the pound or just, well run away

it might be a bit more expensive for cats then dogs but it works and can save your loved ones life if they become lost

All the cats I've owned have been chipped.

if not for your pet for your peace of mind

when I first got Parker he used to dart (alot) - granted he just darted to the dog park (which is across the street) everytime but still - he had to run across MLK which is a very busy street

eveytime I was like...

"well, he'll turn up - he's got a microchip in his head"

he stopped running away because he gets to go to a different dog park everyday now :rolls eyes: but that's because he's spoiled

Got pics of the great adventurer?

Glad it all worked out, last story I heard ended with a friend getting a phone call to pick up his cat, it died in someone's front yard, no signs of a struggle, Spooky just keeled over.

A while ago one of my cats disappeared, he was a real pet and didn't even like to leave the house that much - we went frantic and searched all over for him, posted flyers, asked all over the place. After a few weeks we thought we had seen the last of him. He turned up more than a year later as if nothing had happened (for him).... cats are weird, they have their own rules, Glad to hear your cat turned up in the end.

Well, some people think of pets as their kids, and you don't let your kids run around however they want, do you? Especially if you live in a big city, that's not a natural habitat for an animal. I don't think keeping your beloved pet healthy and comfortable is cruel.

I view my cats in this way. If I had kids I wouldn't prevent them from leaving the house. What kind of life is that?

I've lived with cats in cities and to be honest they're better equipped than humans to live there.

A cat is a very athletic animal. Just watch one run. Where do they get the chance to do that in your home?

It's like caging a bird.

Look, I don't want to get into a whole big discussion about this (or birds, people are bound to disagree about that too) as I see the other side to the argument, especially for pedigree cats who are more open to theft and are not quite equipped mentally to be outdoors (on the whole, I've looked after two house bound pedigrees). It's just that I don't like keeping animals unnaturally, cages and houses are not really close to a natural habitat for either animal.

Can you microchip a cat so it can go pay your bills for you? That would be cool, or if you could get a chip implanted to be able to remote control the cat....that would be awesome!

Just kidding.

A laser pointer sure works like a remote control for da kitties, though....

I love cats.

To answer the question "What do you do when your cat disappears?"

Apparently you make a thread on a music forum and wait a few days. Seems to work.

I didn't write that.

I completely agree with your view John.

I'm really glad the cat came back. Having been through the same thing, I know the relief you must be feeling now :)
