ive made decent tracks on a g4 1.5 pbook so i don't think an ibook 1.2 would be too far off, especially with live 6's deep freezing..

but im really replying because i want to know where you got your signature pic.. that thing is awesome

I started off on a G3 ibook, and even that was doable with lots of freezing. So a G4 ibook should be fine, though not the fastest around. One way to get a sense of this would be to look at the live 5 performance test thread, I'm sure some g4 ibooks are in there somewhere.

You can see my machine's specs in the signature - I've actually switched from a considerably faster Windows machine and prefer working on the iBook in spite of its lower cpu power.

Why? Because file management and stuff like that is much more efficient for me on the Mac (not trying to start a debate here) and I actually get done more in less time. Live 6 seems more efficient than 5, too and personally I find that having to freeze/bounce frequently helps me make decisions earlier.

So, no question the ibook is below par cpu-wise, I still prefer it and for 400 I'd say it's fine.

i use an ibook g4 with 512 mb ram, and 1.3 ghz

it runs pretty good at a 512 samples buffer size.

i get a nice amount of tracks and effects without even reaching 50% cou power in live.

thanks guys.

are you using any plugs, (external ones.) i have absynth which i know would be ok, it uses very little cpu. but kontakt and reaktor might be out of the question. that's why i am thinking of getting operator. what kind of stuff are you guys using?

i basically want a laptop for my vacation in december. i have a total of 20 hours of travel to do (both ways included) and would like to work on tunes while doing it.

oh, and mouthster, my sig pic came from a member of the ayahuasca . com forums. it was created entirely in photoshop. sick style. i love it.

i'm using sonalksis eq, reaktor 5, tassman, camel phat, camel space and vintage warmer on a regular basis. occasionally I'll run other plug-ins, too.
obviously, you can't have 32 tracks all running plug-ins from this list, but it doesn't feel uncomfortable to me the way it works. with reaktor it of course depends on the ensemble you're going to use, tassman can be a cpu hog, too; but Live's great freeze function is your friend.
