Normalizing Tracks

Post by macca » Mon Nov 13, 2006 1:34 pm

Hi,

Is it wise to normalise tracks for djing. Just that all of my tracks seem to have different levels......Whats the best way to get them all on the same level without losing quality?

Cheers

Normalize won't do anything but make the peaks of all songs the same, not average level. I'd DL the freebie "Inspector" plug in, and use the RMS level meters to match all of the clips using the level sliders.

As Tarekith said, what we are hearing is the average volume level, not the peaks. However if you have seriously low peak levels that will obviously also impact the average.

If you have rendered in 24 bits, you can safely normalize and see if it gets any better. If you have rendered in 16 bits and your peak levels are low, then you have thrown away valuable dynamic range and should re render.

Search the forum for Normalizing. There was a good thread about it just last week.
