I now have two laptops at home and i have live 6 on one of them ,would ther be any point in putting live 6 on the second laptop and if so what would be the best way to go about using it.One more thing can the two laptops be hooked up to each other so they work as one if u know what i mean.

You'll need two licenses. In other words, it's not worth doing unless you know you need it ;)

I would install a cheap vst host like Energy XT and just run midi and audio between the machines.
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.

I second that. I have 2 computers (1 laptop, one rackmount) and I use energy XT on 1, ableton on the laptop. I'm trying to achieve a slightly different goal than you, but ultimately I'd recommend using ext on the second machine.

What about linking up two laptops, say for instance, my MacBook and my friends MacBook Pro, both running 5.2?

It's 100% possible and works well.

Try searching the forum, this has been covered extensively. I know I have explained it 4 or 5 times myself.
