It's still putting people into an unrealistic situation, sure the kids were all from broken homes etc. but the explanation that it was because they were rebellious, well it was a stretch I thought.

Dude! It was nothing about broken homes. It was about a government taking away the liberties of the common people and social control through violence. I thought it was very obvious.

The reason they were put on the island was because Battle Royale was a project initiated by the government to prevent youth disobidience. Nothing to do with coming from broken homes, and everything to do with painting a picture (however unrealistic it might've been to you) of the totalitarian mindset.

so my uncle has prostate cancer, my old friend david has aids and some form of cancer (he's f'ing 24), and my girlfriends friend duke just got aids and possibly a liver disorder. I'm not real close to any of these people but it certainly does hit you when you think about it.
