I'm SURE this is a dumb question.......

Post by rbtakemoto » Sun Nov 19, 2006 6:59 pm

I am working on my first recordings (classical voice/piano) and i CANNOT figure out how to make the final output balanced in each headphone. I have one track (i.e. piano) on one side and one (i.e. voice) on the other. Volume etc is balanced fine - just the output is totally separated. I'm guessing its something really simple, right?????? This is driving me crazy!

In your session view, make sure each track panning knob (they are in the mixer section) is pointing straight up (simply click on it and hit DEL to send back to default). This should give you stereo mix.

It's also possible that you recorded each mono file in stereo with the signal panned hard to one side, that would certainly give you the same problem your'e describing. If this is the case, delete the empty "side" of the recording and then pull the mono recording back onto and audio track and youshould be good to go!

kind of the same thing as Orage said, but explained slightly differently ... maybe you chose a stereo recording input, but only had a mono source (ie a mic) meaning that the audio is only on one channel

try putting a Utility effect with the Mono preset on each channel.

He says he has one track. Perhaps it's a stereo track with separate mic recordings of two separate instruments on left and right.

>If this is the case you could copy and paste this single track onto another track, so you have a duplicate. Then, with the pan knobs in session view, pan the tracks to blend them together.

if it is a mono signal, panning will not work until you use the utility
