how to create a 808-style sequencer to create beats live
hi everyone,
i'm thinking of creating a setup, either in live or perhaps rewired with reason, where i can have, say, an empty 16-step sequencer running, and be able to insert drum sounds on any of the 16 steps in real-time, thereby creating and building up / breaking down a drum beat in real-time. so...something like redrum, but redrum doesn't allow you to input & delete notes on the sequencer using a midi keyboard.
there is a little yamaha drum machine called the RY10 that does that (if you hit the same drum sound on the right beat it will delete it - good for breakdowns). and i'm checking one out on ebay, but it would be nice to be able to do it in Live.
any help would be great. i'm going to play around and see what i come up with.
cheers.

I would suggest maybe a Korg ER1MKII Electribe R Rhythm Synth Module. It does the trick for me. Check it http://www.zzounds.com/item--KORER1MK2

Check out Hoffman & Machinate's rack-sequencer for Live 6 at Covertoperators. There has been other solutions as well. Johnisfaster made one during the betas if I remember correctly. Can't find it now, though...

Step seq
This might be one way of doing it with simpler
this could also work with impulse you just got to move the notes up a bit

or put the notes on full and add a gate to cut in if there is such a thing in live not sure.
I would like to see some implimentation of a step seq as an alternative to piano roll as its a fun way to make beats.
Reaktor has some fine examples of this but costs way too much for me a the mo.

I've made a simple 16-Step Sequencer for Live 6 / Impulse. With the 16 macro controls you can select the drum-sound to play at the given slot.
