Gonna buy Serato Scratch!!!
Well, marqs - I plan to scratch digital audio (ie - audio that is not available on vinyl) and record it into Live. This would mean having Ableton running with the Serato software running at the same time. I would then route the audio from Serato into one of the tracks in Lives session view and record the scratching into clip slots. This scratching could then be looped, and played along with other clips in the session view.
This would mean that he audio from Serato has to be fed back to the DJ mixer, and then BACK into the soundcard to make it available to Live. The digital audio would then be POST-crossfader...
I have little or no interest in synching the 2 peices of software. I would not try to mix whole tracks from Live into whole tracks from Serato, nor vice-versa...

Well, as far as I understand, you want to record the output of SSL to Ableton. It can be done of course, via line outputs of SSL box and into your soundcard. A lot of people record their sets this way using the same computer while spinning live.
Are you planning to do that at a gig or at home?
Btw, ASIO driver for SSL is in developement at Serato labs. So in near future you may be able to integrate SSL and Ableton I think.

Have you tried recording from Serato into Live? If you could I'd be grateful if you could let me now how your machine handles running both programs at the same time...
I didn't realise that Serato didn't run on ASIO - does that mean that it is Dirext-X? Do you know WHEN Serato will be implementing ASIO?
(I'm at work and can't get on the Serato website!)

I haven't tried myself, but can test it later today or tomorrow.Patch wrote:Have you tried recording from Serato into Live? If you could I'd be grateful if you could let me now how your machine handles running both programs at the same time...
Well, it's not direct-x too i think, it's their own internal processing system or smthnPatch wrote:I didn't realise that Serato didn't run on ASIO - does that mean that it is Dirext-X?

The ASIO driver is nearly ready, we are just working on a something for the Mac users so we can have something for both platforms at the same time - ASIO is PC only.

I'm getting more and more blown away by mixvibes. They've even got C2C on board!
I'm finding it very difficult not to buy this at the moment...
If you are even SLIGHTLY interested in Torq/Serato/Final Scratch, etc, go and check out:

Ill PM you shortly.
Go to Torq or stick with Ableton.
Serato... eh.
Mines on ebay right now

prospect - I'm not going to "leave" Ableton... I love the way it works - and after all this time my brain is set in Ableton mode - I think in terms of clips/scenes whenever I'm DJ'ing/arranging!!!
I'm interested in getting a digital vinyl solution to scratch/loop in Ableton. Why are you losing Serato?

I'm not gonna be the one to jack your thread and big up Torq but you can backspin and scratch with it easy
I was having problems with letting some tracks run to the end and the go to queue up my next one and it switchs from Absolute to relative - just a minor keystroke fix
Torq is cool I must say
funny though I'm going down this Ableton dj road and getting better at it every day

I have Torq and Serato. I completely agree that Serato is really the only reliable one out there so far. Torq will be a factor as they tighten up the software but Serato is rock solid. I prefer tools that do one thing perfectly to a multi-tool that does many things poorly (FS, Torq, etc...). The file browser in Serato is dead simple but perfect.musick wrote:IMHO there is only one reliable 'vinyl emulation' product out and that's Serato Scratch Live. Even with Ms Pinky you can (already for years) control audio with records, but I would use it in a live stage DJ environment.
"It sounded better broken"
I actually agree with you but what's weird is - I was jamming all weekend on Torq and it never crashed, stuttered or nothing - it's pretty rock solid
yet I have this weird internal feeling, it's not stable
but it is

.........
I've reviewed a few of the popular solutions over at www.skratchworx.com
I still don't see anyone beating Serato for absolute stability, latency or scratch sound - but there are some good alternative products if you want or need different features. As of yet there is no slick way of integrating any of them into Ableton (though I guess the Ms. Pinky plugin can run inside Ableton?....)

A way you could go is to connect the line output of SSL to the line input of your Live soundcard. As SSL does not use ASIO your soundcard is still free for this, but you'll get the latency of if added... As it is a constant latency you could compensate for it with your scratch movements/beat matching.Patch wrote:NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!Deft wrote:As of yet there is no slick way of integrating any of them into AbletonSomebody say they have a work around?!?

Rewiring Torq won't help you because in rewire mode Torq has no vinyl control (it's the about the same as a Traktor like tool when rewire on)

Well I've thinking about this for about three years, and it still seems like the best way to go is to use serato (or whatever works for you) and route it back into your soundcard, and have direct monitoring on for that channel rather than monitoring through ableton. It would only then be latency from the serato interface. But I don't know if that would work for you in a live situation if you wanted live looping. But even if you didn't use direct monitoring, it would be the same latency as using a separate computer with serato and running into the computer with Live would it not?
