Using Ableton 6 & Vinyl

Post by Funkatron » Sat Nov 25, 2006 3:15 pm

Hi, this might sound like a stupid topic, but being new to the whole digital DJ world, I'm not really familiar with what's out there ...

I recently aquired Ableton Live 6 and would like to incorporate my existing vinyl turntable set-up into my Ableton sets. The equipment I have is as follows:

DJM800
2 x Technics 1210MK5
HP Laptop
M-Audio Firewire Audiophile
UC-33e USB/MIDI Controller

I would like to incororate my vinyl into my digital sets as I intend to continue buying vinyl (as long as it's still around), but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. From what I've read, I will need an interface/MIDI clock of some sort between the laptop and turntables/mixer?

Can anyone suggest anything, or where I could go to read up on the topic?

Many Thanks.

the best bet is to map a midi fader to live's tempo, set a range (ie 120-140), then reverse it (so live's tempo speeds up as the fader goes down) you can use tap tempo to start live and go from there..
