The Glitch thread...
I thought it might be an idea to make a thread where people can list their methods of making purposeful glitch, clicks and cuts etc. within Ableton (or elsewhere too!).
Point of reference might be artists like edIT (see album on Planet Mu), Matmos etc.
Just ways of altering sound or generating new sound...
I'll start with a simple one... Reverse a sample (I have found orchestral sounds work well) and adjust the speed that it plays by clicking either the -2 or +2 buttons in the clip options to the left. Slowing stuff down like this can sound pretty good... and also try messing with the warp settings (Beat, Tone etc.).

Nice One
Sorted edIT sounds Well Cool But then most ot Panet Mu stuff does (Big Fan)
Try A reverse Base Kick
I think a lot of it will be a case of magleing sounds and resamplingthem then putting thim in an inpulse or two and Makeing beats.

i find that the best way to glitch things out is to just use samples of household objects, machine sounds, cpu overloads, etc. load em into kontakt, put in some midi, and then once the riffs are written, single out a few sounds for special treatment.
it's all too easy to just get carried away with the sound design and not get any songwriting done otherwise.

i can take it down if you guys want. sorry. it's easy to lose objectivity when you're in party promo mode. this jam could end up costing me an awful lot of money so i'm all antsy.

Nah leave it.. it's good music... but 6000 miles away!
Just don't post it as a comment on someone's MySpace page (personal hate!).
Here's a tip based on something in the Live wiki...
Put a sound into a Simpler. Set start to 50%, Fade on and to 50%, Length to between 1-5% and Loop to 50% or 100%.
Then open a MIDI clip that's 4 bars long say (any will do) and create a MIDI note at C3 that lasts the whole 4 bars (or whatever). Then do a diagonal automation line that stretches from +50% to -50% at the end on the Sample Start parameter of the Simpler. Sounds pretty glitchy.
I'm building a rack with lots of this shit in it.

Re: Not for mac
What was the point of posting that? Everyone knows that - and there is a good thread within Tips & Tricks where a Rack has been built that can replicate the properties of dblue Glitch within Live on a Mac.coupdetat wrote:http://illformed.org/glitch/?page=support
