My live is no longer working
My live is no longer working
My ableton live 5.0.2 was working fine for months and then one day gave me this message and since then I haven't been able to even start the program.
Runtime error!
Program c:\Programfiles\ableton\live 6.0.1\program\live 5.0.2.exe
I've tried uninstalling reinstalling, installing different versions, messed about with that direct draw and stuff too. Nothing seems to work. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hi,
Try deleting the preferences.cfg file that is in that folder:
# Windows (Live 4 and later versions): C:/Documents and Settings/your user name/Application Data/Ableton/Live/Preferences
# Mac OS X: /User/Library/Preferences/Ableton
I may got corrupted. And you should update your version to Live 5.2.2, which is the latest bugfix.
Kind regards,
Amaury

Thanks for the reply but I'm afraid that doesn't work. I'm almost convinced it is Live conflicting with something else on my machine. If install the same version of Live on another machine it works fine, but if I reinstall onto mine it doesn't make any difference. I have tried Live 6.0.1 that doesn't work either

Only that if the preferences file has gone corrupted, you need to delete it, and Live will re-create a fresh one automatically (you'll have to set your preferences again). Re-installing Live does not erase the preferences file, and installing a new version, the preferences are taken from the older version to match your taste. So, do try my suggestion as to see if it is the problem.

Hi,
Can you try with not external gear plugged then? Using only the internal soundcard?
Other possibility: a plugin would give a problem. To find out, move the content of your plugin folder to a temporary folder, and restart Live. If it starts, move back you plugins by small numbers to the right folder, and restart Live each time. That way you can find out which plugin is causing the trouble.
