Was it an MP3 track initially?

Hi,

That happens when using VBR mp3 tacks, and when the computer is using Directshow (the default Windows mp3 decoder). It is advised to use Quicktime, so no 'empty space' is created in the decoded file.

Kind regards,

Hi,

As long as Quicktime is installed on the machine, it should be used to decode mp3, in Live. If I remember well there is a 'bug' with Quicktime and file names of more than 64 character, in which case direct show is used.

Kind regards,

ok, thanks !

it is definetly caused by the long filenames, after shorting them it works.

but how to get rid of this problem ? is it an ableton or a quicktime issue ? in windows xp it does not happen.

installed quicktime 7.5.1 which apple tells it should adress vista incompatibilities but error is still there...

I've experienced this problem as well and isolated it to the filename length (in characters) as well. However, what is interesting is that it only affects MP3s (both constant and VBR) above 192k.

Up to 192kbps encoding, you can have a 200+ character file name, however, you can only have a 59 character file name (+.mp3) for all files above 192k, so all my 320kbps files must have super short names (which is a super pain in the butt with remix files!!!)

If this is indeed a quicktime/directshow issue, has anyone figured this problem out yet? I would LOVE a work-around that does require me to rename all my high-quality sound files!
