Chain not working for sound generators
Chain not working for sound generators
In a group with two sound generators like Reaktor's SpaceDrone, the chain control does not effect the blending.
So chain control is reacting to incomming midi only - or?

Hi conny,
As far as I know, if you've got two chains in a Racks, they work that way:
-if there is no crossfade between the chains, they act on the incoming MIDI, so it saves CPU, and, when you go from one chain to the other, the decay or sustain of envelope/effect is not cut.
-if there is a crossfade between chains, it works on the audio output, to the audio output of the concerned branches will fade accordingly.
Best regards,
Amaury

Hi Amaury -
I have crossfades between them.
Moving the chain point does not change the sound.
I think is has to do with the fact that they are self generating, they don't need midi triggers to do any thing. But strange.
I may look if inserting Reaktor as FX makes a difference.

Hi Conny,
So, you are using a Instrument Rack, with two chains crossfading, and one instance of Reaktor self generating sound on each chain right? Is the Live engine running while you are moving the chain parameter?
I'll have to test that when I get a chance, please bump this thread in the beginning of next week if you don't hear from me.
Regards,
Amaury

OK, here it is:
Inserting two instances of Reaktor *FX* into a group in an *audio* track makes the chain crossfading work as a charm!
They are not to be used as *instruments* for this to work.

Hi both,
not sure if this is related to the (lengthy) post linked below. I'll summarize
Live will attenuate (turn down) the output of a chain only when there is a crossfade selected, if no crossfade is selected the input is attenuated.
An example : an effect rack with a chain containing long reverbs, the reverb tails will not be truncated by chain switching, as the input is moved to the next chain it is the input which is turned down to unselected chains.
If you want the output to be turned down then put a crossfade on, this activates output attenuation. In that case a long reverb tail's output would be attenuated.
So, to attenuate output use a small crossfade
That seems similar to what you want - crossfading between two generators.
I tend to use the first case a lot (un-attenuated output on chain select) with my loopers, as detailed in this thread from the beta forum.
