Well, they're both pretty advanced controllers.
However, with the addition of the arpegiator in Live, a lot of the Bitstream's appeal disappears (it's powerful arp). Plus, who cares if you can record movement within the bitstream when you can record automation in Live?
The SL is much more powerful.
However, the SL is built a bit shoddy. Crap plastic faders, difficult to grab, they're not for a turntablist that's for sure!!!

As a owner of the bitstream 3X, I must say it is much more powerful than the remote SL, the metal case make is robust, the Mackie control emulation works great, the unique LFO and other automations make it very attractive.
This is my point of view, I saw the remote in a shop and it's really plastic cheap compared to the bitstream 3X.
I also heard that about 10% of the remote are coming back to the distributor with faulty buttons.

have you got one of the original ones (back when they were made by bitstream themselves and cost like double what they do now), or a more recent one made by CME? my understanding was that there was quite a difference between the two (though i suspect recent bitstreams are no better/worse than the SLzero)joeman wrote:As a owner of the bitstream 3X, I must say it is much more powerful than the remote SL, the metal case make is robust, the Mackie control emulation works great, the unique LFO and other automations make it very attractive.

I just received the latest version from CME, I heard there were some units with problems (like remote sl) on the first serie shipped from CME.
This new serie is ok, at least mine ! From what I understand that's why there was a delay between the first and second serie from CME, build quality has been largely improved.
Regarding the automations of the bitstream, I agree that the motion sampling available on the controller can be done in Live, but I do not intend to control only Live, I also own hardware instruments and other soft where the motion sampler will be handled by the Bitstream.

that's good to know. i was kind of surprised to read there were problems with build - my brother has one of their controller keyboards and it's really nice, especially for the money.
i like the idea of the motio sampler too. like you say, you can use it on hardware (though, again, that can be done natively in live). it gives you the option of recordeing things in a similar way to clip envelopes, but totally without the computer.

I first was disappointed by the Bitstream ´cause the faders and pots are not much different than those of the Novations. So I think the crossfader is not what a DJ would want. I´m not a DJ but I remember a crossfader feeling different... it may be sufficient for some mixing, though.
That said, I´ve been working with the Bitstream for two or three month now, and have nothing to moan about it. The supersolid metalbody gives a pretty good feel but keep in mind that you´ve got to carry it around.
To check it with your own fingers just send me a message and I´ll happily invite you to my rehearsal room...
