why s live so damn slow?

Post by russ » Wed Nov 29, 2006 6:53 pm

im really upset about this.

ive been supporting your software since live ~ 2/2.5 and now with an upgrade to live 6 ive found that it is unusable when trying to write actual music in the arrangement page.

it sllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwws down whenever im trying to make anything at all track wise.

before you start with the consolidate stuff. im consolidating everything, dual core duo e6600. only 6 (!) tracks, only some eqs and i cannot - repeat cannot edit anything at all. takes seconds to just copy and paste anything, i cant zoom in because it slows down. cant copy because it slows down.

what is the problem and why cant it be fixed?

how am i supposed to make music or is live not for making actual tunes anymore?

please can someone explain - shall i just move to another program and feel ripped off?

no thanks,

annoyed russ.

had a similar problem in version 5, when the notebook has been in standby before. just had to do a reboot and it worked fine again.

but i guess the reason for your problem differs.

urgh. it happens all the time.

sorry for this angry post, but im really annoyed.

2.5 gigs of space. i put stuff in ram - 1.5gigs of xorsair 6400 running@5300 for stability.

i rip loads of samples w/ my h/w and take in some live stuff, zoom in close for an edit and ....... slow.

try and copy and slow.... even copying my first 64 bars is slow

everytime i start its stopping me form making tunes (!) not really the ethos of live is it (?)

processor is at 9% usage. its just impossible to edit.. its annoying because i can get awesome tunings with using time/pitch changes over any program - and this to me is important, if trying to get a natural sound

but performance slowdowns is giving me major stress... are you telling me you get NO slowdowns at all when trying to make small edits w/ live?

i thought the point of this program was to start with your samples - build up tracks, gradually get bigger and more tunes until you have a set to play live.. ?

edit* look, im trying to write really funky abstract stuff - is slight edits with audio just broken, shall i move over to FLstudio for the funk and play out with live as my musical front end, or is this fixed/acknowledged or.. ?

If you want a direct response for your particular problem, I would strongly suggest you email [email protected], as the support team doesn't regularly monitor the forums.

so how much space do i need for more than 64 bars of music o.O

edit* and im not wanting to act like an asshole - but i have a friend with FL, and he has no problem copying small amounts of data about - ok its midi.

and i have no problems with sonar copying amounts of audio at all.

im also pretty sure that if i pm ableton im not going to get a decent response, dunno why but thats how i feel - ive seen loads of people with this problem - from searching on the forums

again - do you guys have NO problems with slowdowns at all with live and making arrangements?

i dont have a minimu cache file, and windows only using hardly anything (im checking device manager)

literally with such a small file and arrangement it is slowdown central.

Sounds like you have shared RAM between your video card and the RAM used by Live. Get more memory, how much do you have? Check for shared video ram on your computer.

no it's slow only when it's VERY VERY VERY busy on the screen, and i have 2 screen quite big also.

I'm not really complaining of my set up. :)

This may be obvious, so please take no offense, but do you have the multi-processor support turned on in the preferences?
