It might be expensive and all, but it's also the most sophisticated step sequencing instrument out there...

2000 euro for a vintage guitar is pocket change, why should this boutique item be any different?

Seriously though, in order to answer this question I have to ask if you've ever tried doing a full track on an analogue-style step sequencer? Because that is just such a great feeling. And the immediacy of accessing all parts of the process by just reaching over, turning a knob or pressing a button is so cool.
- oh, and it's 2000 euro.

I simply love the 1-to-1 physical connection in step sequencing. Some people - Genoqs customers - swear by it.

I am right now in the process of phasing out my Schaltwerk, another hugely expensive unit @ 1200 euro. I love it to bits, but it's too bulky for my shows, unfortunately, which detracts quite a bit from it.
The only real alternatives on the market are 2x monomes or a Lemur - Both very very expensive solutions, yet they seem to have customers too.

The Lemur is uber expensive but at least a quantum leap forward. This thing is trying to dazzle with that retro/sci-fi look, I'm not buyin' it.

this thing is definitely dope, when it comes to music i don't even think the price matters if it's a piece that really does inspire you, , that said, i'd rather get two yamaha rs7000 and have somebody gut'em and put'em in a nice wooden mod.

Well if you are using a Lemur to design a step sequencer interface (which many many people are) then the only difference is tactile feedback and looks.

The GenoQs has the feedback, and many analog-synth freaks will love the wooden frame. I don't think it's ugly, but i sure as hell don't think it's pretty either.

but the sci-fi part of it... would that be the knobs and buttons? What would the unit be without knobs and buttons? And I must say that an x0x sequencer with 16x8 butttons has a tendency to look techie

And surely the faux-Star Trek look of the Lemur is more retro/sci-fi?

Not flaming here, simply trying to figure out just *why* people are dissing the unit.
Does it simply boil down to the high price?

that's true it does have that early 60's look, and for the price it should also beam you up.
correction- the octopus is more like vintage/sci-fi. it would be cool to have onstage while wearing a purple cape
