Takes a very long time to load Live6, load VSTs, etc

Post by cartel00 » Tue Nov 28, 2006 2:02 am

hey guys.

So I dont understand what the problem is here with Live6. Everytime I try to load Live6 it ends up taking forever in the segment dialog box where it reads "Creating Live Set" subsequently when it finaly loads after 6-7 minutes the next issue is when I try to load any effect, vst, anything really within Live that takes a long time as well to load... and I get frustrated so I decide to exit Live and that takes forever too!! sometimes it ends up crashing the system! What am I to do?

sytem specs?

also, what do you have as your default template? make it as minimal as possible.

my folders setting looks like this:
http://www.anthonyross.net/ableton.JPG

most of this is the default for ableton but the less you have checked off here the more ableton has to do before it starts up.

ie if your custom vst folder is your entire HD(especially if external HD), it's going to search the entire thing before it loads up for new vst's.

Hello,

It could be that your Preferences files got corrupted. Try deleting the preferences.cfg file from that location:

Windows (Live 4 and later versions): C:/Documents and Settings/your user name/Application Data/Ableton/Live/Preferences
Mac OS X: /User/Library/Preferences/Ableton

You will have to set your Preferences again, but that should solve the problem. If not, maybe your template file got corrupted, in that case open Live, hold the SHIFT key while choosing 'new Live set' from the file menu. That will open a fresh new set. Then, go to the Preferences, File and Folder pane, and hit the 'save' button under 'Template'.

Kind regards,

hmm, so the problem is BACK! Now it looks like the reason it worked initially is because whenever I deleted the preference file it reseted all my preferences, including my audio options. When it resets it goes automatically to MME/DX and then the software works fine and smooth. However when I switch this option to my ASIO prefernce, then the program begins to really slow down a lot, and lag, and just becomes terrible. Any idea how I Can fix this>?

Hi,

that seems to indicate that the drivers for your soundcard are not up to date, or something on this line.

I am experiencing the same thing over here. Seems to have something to do with my network connection: Connected to the w-LAN / Internet it takes a long time to start Live, whereas it only takes e few seconds when w-lan switched off.

I think there was another thread somewhere in this forum where a member stated that LIVE is trying to do some sort of indexing, sample preparations or whatever as a background process... but I am not sure about this.

Cheers
