sound drop-outs and defects under OS X 10.1.5 + Live 1.5.1

I was wondering if anyone else has run into sound defects under OS X 10.1.5 and Live 1.5.1?

My setup is as follows:

-- iBook / 600, 384 MB, Mac OS 10.1.5
-- Event1 Ezbus (USB sound input and output)

Once I get to about 45% of CPU usage, I get sound defects where sound either drops out or is severely damaged. This happens whether I touch the keyboard or mouse or not.

I have tried a "renicer" program to increase CPU priority to the Live application.

I have also tried increasing output latency.

I have not found a way to reduce the defects, let alone eliminate them

I do not get the "D" flashing in the top-right corner of the sequencer window.

I find the problem worsens when recording sound in another application, such as Spark LE Plus or Sound Studio.

Does anyone have any advice on anything I can try to reduce the sound problems?

no advice but i'm getting the same thing. crackling and dropouts. i'm getting it with my emi 2|6 and with the bulit-in headphone jack. i'm using a Powerbook 550.

hi:
i have an iBook 600, 384 ram.
i get really sloppy audio at about 45%, the dropout "D" has never appeared as well. since i fell in love with osX i have been trying to find a usb interface that works. i have tried the edirol ua3 and ua5, aardvark usb3, and the imic, all suck.
what's the deal? any suggestions?
apparently everybody is waiting for os 10.2. but i always thought macs were audio computers. apple shouldnt release OS that causes so many headaches...(for audio...)
i just want rock-solid audio on this rock solid software.

oh, ps, dont buy "return to castle wolfenstein" for osX because you'll never want to do anything other than play that game...soo coool.

I have the same problem on a Powerbook g3 500. Have had this problem since I got live. Tried changing the hardware buffer size, tried making a RAM disk. Nothing works. Have emailed ableton 4 or 5 times about this problem and have not recieved a solution. This is an extremely serious problem and should be a priority for a bug fix. In effect it makes the program unusable!

I testinf Live with OS10.1.4 and MOTU828 beta drivers.
sometimes random sound dropouts

is there a way to optimize the ausio in OSx and freethe CPU and memory free for it , how do you shut everything down like networking , internet etc. in OSX?

The MOTU beta drivers require 10.1.5. Have you optimized your OSX drive lately?

I just started recording audio directly into Live and am experiencing similar problems. At about 50% cpu usage, the sound quality for certain clips deteriorates.

In the past, I recorded samples into protools and exported them with no problems.

Specs
Mac G3
Processor G4 500 mhz (upgrade)
OS 9.2
Sound Card - Audiomedia 3

I'm having dropout with my MOTU 828 + OS X - see this thread.

Apparently people with other audio cards/interfaces are having similar problems. So maybe it's a Live issue. So um, we'd all like something to be fixed here!!![/url]

yes, my ibook 600, 384 ram, os 10.1.4 is having difficulties. at about 40-45% the audio gets nasty, even if i am importing wavs/aiffs from other apps.
help ableton!

I have g3 powerbook 400 in OSX 192mb, with a midi man Quattro, external 20 gig firewire drive .. I use Live primarily as a DJ tool with the headphone out and the main out each going through a channel in a DJ mixer. In the past I never had any drop out problems. It ran flawlessly i was able to switch tracks. Then the one night I play to a packed house, it started dropping out. no flashing I/o light, drive is optimized, memory is fine. Now it always drops out when i have 2 or more tracks playing at once or if i'm switching tracks. Maybe its because I keep adding tracks to Ableton.. it is filled with a bunch of songs, could this be the problem?

Not sure if this could help but...

I used to have audio dropouts all the time and now i never have audio dropouts. the only thing i am doing differently then before is that now I am recording all samples into live, while before i was using some royalty free drum samples that were already given to me. For whatever reason Live was not handling these samples well, but If i record my own i never have problems. Maybe check the samples???
