How do you deal with loops that begin before the 1st beat?
How do you deal with loops that begin before the 1st beat?
oh well, the question looks weird, but,
what do you do if you need to begin the loop (whatever it's in there) on the beat before the downbeat, or on the 3and (whatever you call it, I hope you know what I mean).
I just hate to make additional scenes just for these kinds of things.
Live is great, but not so great for things that aren't more or less strictly begining on 1.
Is there a simple solution I might have overlooked?
thanks

I think the answer to your problem is somewhere between quantization of the loop trigger, and the start point of the loop.
Let's take an example, and suppose the time you'd like the loop to start on is the 4th beat (I suppose our loop is divided in 4 beats). To do this, one way is to set the launch quantization to 1/4, and the start of the loop on the 4th beat. Then it is only a question of how accurate you are

I adjust the clip's start location, the loop braces,
or i do this with multiple clips that follow one another, record into arranger, consolidate, throw back into session view.
Either way, i think i still have to adjust the clip's start location unless i committed to working in arranger, then it's simple simple simple, just click on the wave, and stretch it to where you want the beat to come in.

I add enough silence at the beginning of the loop/track so that it can start on '1', even if the sound doesn't come in until later in the measure.
Useful when DJing a track that ends abruptly on the third beat, and launching an incoming track that starts on the fourth beat. With both tracks quantized to measure, they run right into each other without dropping a beat.

I have the opposite problem - creating a loop that stops on beat one. The only ways I've found are to make every loop start on two - very confusing - or make a special 'end' pattern , but I have to remember to trigger that at the right moment while playing keys at the same time.
