New track done in Live 6

Post by udp » Thu Nov 30, 2006 3:00 pm

Well actually all the music on the site is done in various versions of Live. The new track is "Music is" in the bottom right corner. Kind of BOCish. Please enjoy and feel welcome to critique either here or by emailing me.
edited to skip web site and go directly to Music Is.

Hi,

"Music Is" is a nice tune. Liked the melodies and would be interested to find out how you achieved the slightly warped stretched tape quality a bit reminiscent of Boards of Canada.

Only crit is maybe bring the drums up a bit, make them more apparent but as always this is personal oppinion. You may have done this on purpose.

Good stuff though and liiked your site.
Cheers

One non-music comment, your site takes ages to load (T2 connection here) with all the preview clips like that....

Overall pretty cool tune though, didn't really care for the vocal samples (got repetitive), and thought there was just a bit too much reverb on everything. Good sounds though, nice melodies.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I think the mp3 links are lightly problematic, but I'm quite sure the photo for Music Is is too large.

footslider, the slightly tape steched sound is Operator with the operators lightly detuned and lfo'ed. The lfo is slow and and lightly applied. The track actually only uses Live 6 effects (lots of Dynamic Tube and Saturator) with the exception of Mastering Compression done in Peak.

Hi Udp

Can this be achieved with any synth or is it a feature of Operator. I don't have operator unfrotunately.

cheers

The page won't open, then I have to shut down all my browsers to get rid of the page, which is really annoying!!

Well, I think you could achieve this with Crystal which is free from: http://www.greenoak.com. It has 3 oscillators as opposed to Operators 4, but it does have extensive tuning and modulating options. Take your time learning it, it is the most powerful free synth out, and can do many things well. What I like about Operator is it is sooooo easy to learn and fast to use. I feel Operator is well worth the price. Honestly, Operator and Crystal are really the only 2 synths I use with any regularity. Sampler is also very powerful, but I haven't really dug deep enough into it yet to use its full potential. Any other questions, just ask. :)

Thanks for this.

I have Crystal but do need to sit down and learn about it a bit more. Have only really used the presets so far.

Live 6 upgrade is my christmas pressie. Operator and sampler will have to wait till I get some money together.

I'm sure I'll come back to you for tips on using Crystal at some point!
Cheers
