clip / track select and browse remote control (Micromodul)

Post by guiminha » Thu Jul 20, 2006 12:15 am

Features I miss the most when using a MIDI controller (like Micromodul LV2) are:

1) Clip select
2) Track select
3) Browse and select the clip/wave library

MIDI Remote control of these would help a lot for mouse-free operation.
Accodringly to Mathias from Fadefox (builders of Micromodul), these depend on Ableton providing a special script/driver (as they provide for Mackie Control).

Anyone else misses these???

clip select and track select can already be done with the LX2 (select 12 tracks and 12 clips in each of this tracks) or with the LV2 (6 tracks and 6x6 clips).
nevertheless, Live should support the micromoduls as control surface!

yeah.....combining the faderfoxes with midistroke or bomes means you can already do all the stuff you mention.....i've even got it set up to zoom in and out while scrolling through a clip.. as of now the only thing i cannot do without the mouse is select the loop brace in session view for remote doubling and halving of the loop length.......

Can you explaing how do you get this working? Specially browsing the sample/wave/clip library.
What do you mean by "bomes"? A map/.als file with this configured would be v. helpful, too.

Thanks in adavance.

bomes midi translator....an app that converts midi info into keystrokes....but i'm on a mac so i use midistroke. basically you map a midi note from the faderfox to trigger a keystroke or sequence of keystrokes.

so for example pressing one button on the faderfox can open the browser window and put the focus there:

alt-apple-b
LEFT

i'm using an LV1 and DJ1 combined so once i'm in the browser i can use the endless encoder on the DJ1 to scroll up and down by mapping it to the UP and DOWN arrows via midistroke. when i click the same encoder i have it mapped to the following keystrokes:

apple c (copy)
RIGHT
apple v (paste)

thereby copying the selected file and pasting it into the set.

to zoom remotely you first have to put focus on the clip view. first select the track with the playing clip that you want to zoom. now map a faderfox button via midistroke for the keystroke

alt-down

pressing this button TWICE (the actual keystroke is alt-down down but this crashes midistroke for some reason and i discovered by chance that just pressing the mapped button twice gives the same result) will put focus on the clip. with the same encoder on the DJ1, but this time switched to a different position (it is switchable four ways) and mapped to the + and - keys, i can now zoom in and out.

in the screenshot you can see that clip loop start is mapped to cc14 on channel 16. that's the encoder i use for scrolling the loop brace around the clip. clip loop length is mapped to cc23. that second four way switchable encoder on the DJ1 really does come in handy........

i have set clip start and set loop start mapped to the same button so i can retrigger the clip from any point and go straight into a loop with the minimum of fuss.....

hope this helps.....let me know if you need more...it's late here and i'm not sure how clear i've made myself at this hour.......
