I found Portland, as nice a place as it is, to have a lot of functioning, closet tweakers and junkies in the music scene. Why, i dunno. It is an arts town and it has a lot going for it but that always springs to mind when someone brings up Portland.
If you're going to do AZ I prefer Tucson to Phoenix.
Best choice? San Diego. Great electronic music scene for live music, producing and DJing. Knowledgeable crowds, lots of clubs and venues, 2 hr drive to LA if needed. The military and right-wing influence is not as strong there as it used to be. Oh, and Mexico is 20 minutes away.

Dj Dan is doing pretty good for himself
Donalds kind of blowing up
No one in SoundGarden is dead
Chris Cornell went on to start antoher band - AudioSlave <-- not sure if you've heard of them
I don't like Kenny G but he's pretty famous and talented
Death Cab for Cutie is kind of blowing up right now
I'm still alive ;)
everyone and anyone who has killed themselves had drug problems - if you have a drug problem you're bound to die some how or another
we've also had to good sports transplants who haven't managed to kill themselve
like Jason Terry and Corey Dillion
Shaun Alexander lives here (even though he's not a native
Doug Christie graduated from Rainier Beach High School and went on to become something special - and he's not dead
Drew Bledsoe is from here and he's not dead
not to mention Bill Gates who with all the money and power in the world - for some they couldn't handle that pressure - well, he's still alive
then there's Bill Nye The Science Guy - he's funny and went international ---> alive
Anna Faris - the chick from the Scarey Movie series - born and raised up the street from Seattle in Edmonds - alive and well
Cameron Crow - alive
so what were you talking about again?

The successful artist mentioned above from the PNW had drug problems - Jimmy and Kurt - the 2 most famous tragdiessimpleton wrote:Why do peeps keep suggesting the pacific northwest when it's so miserable up there that even succesful artists end up committing suicide?
I went on the point out multiple success stiores from the PNW - musicians, scientists, athletes, artist (Jacob Lawrence - who died of natural causes) and artors - all who are still living - do any of them have drug problems or have they thought of suicide? I don't know - but they're still alive and doing well

Drugs might be the road to nowhere
at least it's the scenic route.
I think the lesson here is to not believe anything you read on the internet.
