Vst Automation Question

Post by CEntity » Mon Dec 11, 2006 1:38 am

Hello, I'm a fairly new user of Ableton and have had some trouble automating certain vsts. Spectrasonics Atmosphere and Trilogy for one. Could someone please point me in the right direction about how to do it? My vanguard and other VSTs have normal automation setting but Spectrasonics does not automate.

All controls are present from the main UI and all parameters are automatable. However because of how the UI uses the same controls for some layer specific parameters, these controls cannot be automated independently of each other at the same time, though they can be linked which makes them global controls for both layers

You also cannot automate via the sliders and knobs on the interface itself, but must use MIDI controllers to automate or record automation. A chart is provided in the manual detailing which MIDI CC works with each parameter to allow you to configure your controllers as needed. Naturally in Ableton, this applies to envelopes as well, so it's still very easy to setup automation using CC envelopes in the midi track(s) associated with Atmosphere.

:( I have been looking around and still have not been able to do it. Is there a guide somewhere? the manual did not proove too useful for this.

I dont have any physical knobs or sliders to use at the moment and would like to automate one layer at a time. Is this possible?

http://www.spectrasonics.net/instrument ... _midi.html

This will give you a list of what controller numbers control what.
Then in live's clip view, go to envelopes. In the first box put 'midi ctrl' and in the second put the cc number you want.

Don't think separate control of each layer is possible... You could however make another atmosphere instance with the same preset in the next track. Mute layer B in the first one, and mute layer A in the second. Now you essentially have the same sound but the layers can be controlled separately
